Which
is the most durable Inflatable Boat, One with a
"Hard" fiberglass molded floor or one
with an inflatable floor?
Durability is more a function of the hull fabric
than what kind of bottom it has. Hypalon is definitely
the most durable material, and the most expensive.
PVC is the least expensive and is very susceptible
to sunlight damage. Then there are several combination
fabrics that include PVC and other materials. Avon
and their hypalon fabric get my vote every time.
We still use a 1967 Avon Redcrest that is still
going strong - 32 years and no major repairs - unbelievable.
A RIB (rigid-hulled inflatable boat) would be my
preference as long as it can conveniently be loaded
and carried (rides better, larger HP, more capacity).
On your 58' boat (wow, I can hardly imagine) I would
think you have plenty of room for a first class
set of davits. On my boat a RIB is out because any
inflatable will have to be carried in a valise,
then inflated when needed, or strapped to the swim
step - neither of which are suitable options for
a RIB.
